1 〔態度を変える〕 become overbearing [high-handed]; get on one's high horse; come on strong; (泥棒が) take the offensive; turn aggressive.

●しつこく借金の返済を迫られて, 彼はついに居直った. Badgered mercilessly about his debt repayment, he finally sat up and took the offensive.

・こそどろは見つけられて居直った. Surprised in the act, the burglar began to bluster aggressively.
